Dativ

The giving and receiving case. Use the dative to show who receives something, who benefits from an action, or who something is directed towards. Think of it as answering 'to whom?' or 'for whom?'.

  • The indirect object — showing who something is given, said, or done to
  • Corresponds to 'to someone' or 'for someone' in English
  • Used with verbs like: dati (give), reći (say), pisati (write), pokazati (show), pomagati (help)

Examples

Dajem knjigu bratu.

I am giving the book to my brother.

Pišem pismo učiteljici.

I am writing a letter to the teacher.

Pomogao sam drugovima.

I helped my friends.
